The Hyland Theater opened on April 27, 1920 after several months of construction.

The new theater, in Sugarhouse, promised to only show new pictures and their prices would not exceed 35 cents. A ventilating system was installed that reportedly could change out the air in the entire theater in two minutes was installed, along with a Wurlitzer organ at a cost or $10,000.

After six years of being open, the Hyland Theater closed its doors in April of 1926 but reopened two weeks later as the Forum Theater. The Forum Theater was closed in 1929 (approximately).
