LYCEUM THEATER    251-253 South State Street    Opened: 1908    Closed: 1909

Located just north of the Knutsford Hotel, on State Street, the Lyceum Theater was built.

The new building was financed by Max Daniels and designed to be a combination theater, hotel, and business block.

While the front of the building consisted of two stores, the upper floors were devoted to a 41 room hotel. The basement of the building had a ratskeller(restaurant) that worked with the hotel, and the theater was located in the rear of the building with a seating capacity of 1,100. The design of the theater was a main floor and one balcony, with boxes located on each, and the dressing rooms underneath the stage.

During the course of the Lyceum Theater being built, the theater was leased to the John Cort theatrical syndicate.
