PANTAGES THEATER    48 East 300 South    Opened: 1913    Closed: 1921

The Pantages Theatre, previous the Colonial Theatre on 3rd South (Broadway), opened its doors to a packed house on September 10th, 1913.

The newly christened theatre had an elite crowd for its opening night, consisting of Governor Spry, Mayor Park, county commissioners, justices of the supreme court of Utah, and L.D.S. President Joseph F. Smith (nephew to Joseph Smith, founder of the Church of Latter Day Saints). Governor Spry opened the evening with a speech before the vaudeville performance began. This was the first time Pantages vaudeville was introduced to the Salt Lake City viewers.

The Pantages Theatre was completely redecorated in gold and old rose, making the lobby and foyer a sight to see.
